Half time at Molineux yesterday brought two bags of stress for Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe being one goal down and with an injury to a key player.
Moments before the half time whistle blew, £63 million striker Alexander Isak was struck in the face by the ball - an innocuous thing to happen but it brought about the end of Isak's evening.
Alexander Isak didn't come out of the tunnel for the second half, he didn't even take his place on the bench as the club's medical team continued to assess the striker.
At the time Sky Sports mentioned in commentary that it was a problem with Isak's nose and they couldn't stem the bleeding.
After the game, Eddie Howe gave an update to The Northern Echo on Isak's injury and confirmed that the damage was more to his eye than his nose and was complaining of blurred vision, and that was why he couldn't continue.
“It was his eye, but I’m not 100 per cent sure what the issue was. I just knew he had to come off. We’ll find out more afterwards. I don’t know whether it’s serious or not, but we absolutely hope not. He’s such an important player for us.”
It's now a tense wait to see if Isak will be able to face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
It could potentially be a baptism of fire for the 21-year-old newbie Will Osula who is still to make his debut for the Magpies following his £15 million summer move.
Even with Isak off the pitch and Callum Wilson still injured, the Danish U21 international watched the entirety of yesterday's match from the bench with Howe choosing to go with Anthony Gordon playing through the middle, flanked by Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy.
That could be the way he chooses to lineup against Fulham if Isak fails to recover, although, honestly, we will scream if Jacob Murphy gets the nod again, he was woeful yesterday and I take zero pleasure in saying that.
