Eddie Howe delivers positive injury update for Newcastle United ahead of Leeds United clash
It had looked like Eddie Howe would have to make four changes to his Newcastle United starting lineup at Elland Road after a bruising defeat to Liverpool on Monday night.
Joelinton is set to miss tomorrow's clash with injury, but as his wife had posted on Instagram, the Brazilian is likely to be back in contention to start after the international break.
Anthony Gordon is obviously suspended after his red card on Monday night, and he will miss the next three games.
But it's better news for both Fabian Schar and Sandro Tonali, who both had to be removed from action on Monday through injury.
Fabian Schar is available for selection tomorrow
Fabian Schar was a concussion substitution on Monday, meaning the club had to follow protocol before he returns to action, but those protocols allow a player to return to action after six days as long as they are cleared by a medical professional, which Schar has, meaning he is available for selection on Saturday.
As for Sandro Tonali, the Italian is determined to play on Saturday after his shoulder injury, although Eddie Howe was keen to emphasise in his pre-match press conference that he won't be risked if he's not 100%.
It had initially looked like Tonali had dislocated his shoulder, but that proved not to be the case, and while Sandro is still in pain, Eddie Howe says he really wants to be involved at Elland Road.
We doubt Tonali will start at Elland Road
We'd be surprised if Sandro Tonali starts the game tomorrow evening, but not shocked if he's in the squad.
Fabian Schar will likely keep his place ahead of Malick Thiaw, as he and Dan Burn have started the season really well, and it would be a shame to have to split them up.
It's a much more positive update than we were expecting, as Tonali looked like he would be heading for a lengthy layoff, and we thought that the concussion protocol would rule out Fabian Schar. More positive vibes to take into the game.
