Eddie Howe will have a couple of decisions to make on the Newcastle United lineup at the weekend when club football returns after the international break.

Fabian Schar is likely to be reinstated to the starting lineup after serving his three-match ban following his straight red card against Southampton on the opening game of the season.

That one is pretty straightforward, but one decision that isn't is who to start at right-back.

Tino Livramento has been the first-choice in the Premier League so far this season with Kieran Trippier being deployed as a substitute while given the nod to start in the Carabao Cup.

Kieran Trippier had wanted to leave Newcastle this summer

Trippier, who turns 34 later this month had indicated a desire to leave Newcastle this summer but with Turkey his only real option now, and Eddie Howe desperate to keep hold of one of his most influential players, it's likely that the recently retired England star is set to stay at St James' Park until at least January.

It's believed that Trippier's reasons for wanting a move are both personal and football-related, and we can absolutely see why he'd be angling for a move away, but Trippier is the consummate professional and hasn't pushed for a move.

In fact, The Athletic believes that Trippier, who was once labelled 'amazing' by Son Heung-Min could be given the nod over Livramento on Sunday as Newcastle visit Wolves.

Tino Livramento got the nod over Trippier due to fitness

Their report claims that Livramento's mean reason for starting ahead of Trippier in the opening games was mainly due to having a full pre-season at the club, whereas Trippier was off representing England at Euro 2024 and then on holiday and thus returned to training much later.

Now that Trippier is more up to speed, and didn't have to leave for international duty this time, he could be thrown back into the starting lineup on Sunday.

Livramento is currently away with England and will be hoping to get on the pitch for his debut tomorrow night as the Three Lions take on Finland.
