Devastating news for Newcastle United star as youngster is forced to withdraw from international squad
While most of the Newcastle United squad are now on their summer break, a few of our young stars are still in action with U21s and U19s tournaments taking place this summer.
Tino Livramento shone for England U21s on Thursday evening and will likely be the first name on the teamsheet tonight as the Young Lions take on Slovenia in the U21s European Championships.
Elsewhere, Will Osula came to the rescue for Denmark U21S earlier on Thursday, having come off the bench to bag an assist and the winning goal.
However, it's not such good news for academy graduate Lewis Miley, who was set to represent England U19S in their European Championships.
Lewis Miley has been pulled from the England U19s squad
Lewis Miley had recently been made captain of the U19s and this year's Euros was going to be the ideal stage for Miley to showcase his talent and give Eddie Howe something to think about going into next season.
However, just hours before kick-off against Norway yesterday it was revealed that Miley had succumbed to the groin injury that was niggling him at the end of the season and the FA released a statement confirming his withdrawal from the squad.
“Will Antwi has added Tottenham Hotspur’s Reiss Russell-Denny and Crystal Palace’s Jesse Derry to his UEFA U19 EURO squad. This follows the withdrawal of Newcastle United’s Lewis Miley and Southampton’s Tyler Dibling.”
Lewis Miley will now recover and rest before pre-season
Miley isn't the Toon's only representative at the U19 Euros, however, as new boy Antonio Cordero starred for Spain in their 1-0 win over Denmark on Friday night.
Lewis Miley will now return home for a break and recovery before joining up with Newcastle again next month.
It's a shame that, for the second summer running, Miley has endured a setback, but at least this rest should now mean he gets to participate in pre-season fully this year.
