When it was revealed that Lewis Hall was seeing a specialist about an ankle injury following a knock he picked up in the game against Liverpool we feared the worst.

The Newcastle United full-back has been in absolutely inspired form this season after his bit-part role last year and the 20-year-old was being touted by pundits as the answer to England's prayers at left-back, too.

Now, though, with just nine days until Thomas Tuchel announces his first England squad, he has to look elsewhere for the left-back role as Lewis Hall has been handed bad news.

Hall is now going to miss the rest of the season after a specialist sent him for surgery on his foot.

Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery

The news started leaking last night with rumours that Hall would be out for the rest of the season.

This morning, the club confirmed the bad news via social media, confirming that Hall has undergone surgery on a bone in his foot.

"Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the 2024/25 season after sustaining an injury to a bone in his foot.

"Following a scan and advice from a specialist, Lewis will undergo surgery before a period of rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.

"Wishing you all the very best for your surgery and recovery, Lewis 🖤🤍"

Eddie Howe will need to get creative for the Carabao Cup final

It definitely feels like there's some sort of invisible force trying its hardest to stop Newcastle United from lifting a trophy.

With Hall's injury and Anthony Gordon's suspension, Newcastle have lost all their power down the left hand side, and with Trent Alexander-Arnold's defensive capabilities seen as the one chink in Liverpool's armour, it looks like the Magpies have had their power stripped away.

We'll have to see what Eddie Howe can come up with to give the lads a fighting chance a week on Sunday, but our already low confidence is fading. Still, it's another excuse we can use.
