Newcastle United were the victims of a robbery tonight after Paris Saint-Germain had a dubious penalty awarded in second-half stoppage time.

Paris Saint-Germain had many chances to grab a goal and tie the fixture up after Newcastle took a first-half lead, but they couldn't find the net thanks to some poor finishing by their forwards, some outstanding goalkeeping by Nick Pope and incredible defending by the entire Newcastle team, not just the back four.

We can't fault the effort from all eleven lads on the pitch. They gave everything on the night, they left it all out on the pitch and fully deserved three points.

UEFA Guidelines state that it wasn't handball so why was it given?

Tino Livramento had another outstanding game for Newcastle and it's extra gutting for the penalty to have been awarded against him after he didn't put a foot wrong all night.

In all honesty, he didn't do anything wrong in terms of the penalty either as literally every pundit who saw it was adamant it was not a penalty. The ball struck Livramento's chest then his arm, and under the UEFA guidelines, that should not be given as a penalty.

"In their guidelines for the next season, the Board recommends that UEFA should clarify that no handball offence should be called on a player if the ball is previously deflected from his own body and, in particular, when the ball does not go towards the goal."

That comes from the UEFA website, written in April this year before this season got underway, so that guideline applies for the current season.

Ally McCoist was feeling it on Newcastle fans' behalf

Ally McCoist was on commentary for TNT Sports and he said he was devastated for Newcastle.

"I'm really devastated for them.

"The work rate was there, they put bodies on the line, they had no subs...

"Eddie Howe will be absolutely thrilled to bits with what they have given him.

"I feel there was a serious injustice with that penalty being given."

Ally thinks he's devastated, imagine how we feel!
