Newcastle United were said to be interested in Barcelona winger Raphinha this summer but it's now believed the Magpies have given up on that pursuit.

Barcelona weren't willing to take any kind of hit on the man they paid Leeds United £55million for, and Newcastle were not willing to go that high to make a deal happen.

Now, though an old story that made no sense at the time has resurfaced with Football365 claiming that reports from Spain are suggesting that Newcastle have put down a €30million (£25million) bid on Barcelona's table for former Man City man Ferran Torres.

This follows a story earlier in the year that claimed Newcastle had made a similarly low bid for Ferran Torres which was quickly rubbished.

Newcastle are 'tempting' Barcelona with €30m offer

After helping his country to the Euro 2024 trophy, we can't imagine £21million is going to be anywhere near enough for Barca to part with the 24-year-old who they paid Man City £55million for in January 2022.

If Barcelona aren't willing to take a hit on Raphinha, we can't imagine they'd take such a big loss on Ferran Torres either, although the report suggests they would be open to a deal that would be much lower than what they'd be asking for Raphinha.

It makes no sense to us, but if that's what Barcelona want to do, then so be it, we certainly wouldn't complain if we could pick up Ferran Torres, even if Barca push us to £40million.

Torres bagged a hat-trick for Manchester City at St James' Park

Torres already has a hat-trick at St James' Park to his name, so he certainly knows where the onion bag is on our home turf.

Convincing Torres to make the switch to Newcastle could also be a huge hurdle for the club, but we'd have to cross that bridge when we come to it.

There's a definite heart-attack warning for the amount of salt required to take with this story. As much as we'd welcome a move for Ferran Torres, none of this adds up for us.
