Newcastle United haven't yet walked away from the table as Crystal Palace continue to hold out for more money for Marc Guehi.

It is believed that the Magpies are willing to step away if progress is not made this week with the club already working on alternatives.

Chelsea have a mission to offload up to 14 players before the transfer window closes and some high-profile names are up on the block including Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling.

As well as winger Noni Madueke, Newcastle have also held an interest in 25-year-old centre-back Trevoh Chalobah.

Trevoh Chalobah has been stripped of his squad number at Chelsea

Chalobah is another player who looks set to fall victim to Enzo Maresca's axe with him losing his number 14 shirt to new signing Joao Felix who has returned to Stamford Bridge for another attempt after failing so miserably last time he was there.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has broken down the squad number changes at Chelsea and as you can only realistically get two numbers on the back of a shirt, they've had to drop a few people off the roster to accommodate which means approximately 86 players will be without squad numbers this season.

With Maresca telling Chalobah that he doesn't feature in his plans, Newcastle could move to strike for the former England youth star.

Signing Chalobah could lead to a statement signing on right wing

We can't be certain how that would go down with fans as Chalobah seems like a big drop down in quality from Guehi, but he would also be a big drop down in price.

The money saved on the centre-back could then be used to bring in a better right-winger which the team also desperately needs.

The last week of this transfer window is going to be interesting that's for sure as Newcastle still have business to do and little time in which to do it.
