Newcastle United are set to miss out on another top target this summer after already missing out on Tosin Adarabioyo.

It wasn't Chelsea who stumped us this time, in fact, The Blues, along with Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United have all been rejected as striker with £55million release clause is set to stay put.

RB Leipzig beat Newcastle to the signing of young Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko last summer as he moved from RB Salzburg in Austria to their sister club in Germany.

Sesko took to the Bundesliga like a duck to water and Newcastle's interest remained going into this summer's transfer window, along with interest from other top Premier League sides.

Fabrizio Romano says Benjamin Sesko is staying put for now

However, Fabrizio Romano has posted on X today that Benjamin Sesko will stay at Leipzig for at least another season after the two parties agreed new terms which sees his release clause being removed.

"EXCLUSIVE: Benjamin Šeško has decided to STAY at RB Leipzig and sign new contract on improved terms!

"Decision made for talented striker, similar to what Haaland decided back in the days at BVB.

"Šeško will stay at Leipzig with a new gentlemen agreement for future exit."

This could be good news for Newcastle

It does look like Sesko has a get-out clause in the form of the gentleman's agreement, but we assume there will be plenty of caveats attached to that in the form of a release fee and probably if certain clubs come knocking.

The 21-year-old has plenty of years left in him and a delay for a season may benefit Newcastle in truth. With just one game per week again next season, we'd like to think that the Magpies will be challenging for a Champions League spot again.

Should Newcastle gain one of the coveted spots in Europe's elite competition, that will be used as a recruitment tool for potential targets of which Sesko may still be one.
