David Ornstein makes big claim regarding Sandro Tonali to Arsenal rumour that dominated morning headlines
Newcastle United rubbished reports that Arsenal were looking to make a deadline day move for Sandro Tonali this morning.
Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg claimed this morning that Arsenal were sniffing around the Italian midfielder and were set to launch a deadline day swoop.
Newcastle were quick to deny any rumours, and it has been made very clear that Tonali is going nowhere today.
What happens in the summer is anyone's guess as there's a growing feeling that he may be on the move.
Sandro Tonali's agent instigated the Arsenal rumours
This afternoon, however, The Athletic's David Ornstein, who is often a trusted source, has added a bit of extra spice to the story.
Ornstein claims that Tonali was offered to Arsenal by his agent. Arsenal explored their options but never got as far as contacting Newcastle.
The story remains the same in that Tonali is going nowhere in this window, but the fact that his agent is shopping him around is a massive concern.
Can Newcastle keep hold of Sandro Tonali this summer? We're not convinced
Sandro Tonali has been playing as if his head is elsewhere this season. He's only now just starting to return to his best after a shaky campaign.
Some fans have even raised red flags over the fact that he and his wife opted to have their child in a London hospital. We're not quite sure how that links to a possible departure.
Keeping hold of Tonali was always going to be a challenge once he reached his best at Newcastle, and there's no doubt there's going ot be interest in the summer, it's just whether Newcastle can make all the right moves to keep him here, or if we lose another star for a second year in a row.
