The Match of the Day 2 team were spot on when talking about Newcastle United's performance against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.

Newcastle failed, yet again, to take three points away from the AMEX Stadium despite dominating, particularly in the second half.

Brighton played well, but Newcastle always looked the most likely to score. That was until they got the ball into the final third, and the wheels would come off.

A draw was a fair result on balance, but if Newcastle were more on their game, they could have come away with a big win.

Anthony Gordon's introduction barely moved the needle for Newcastle

Danny Murphy hit the nail on the head

Wayne Rooney had said how much Newcastle dominated but needed to work on the little details, while his co-pundit on Match of the Day 2, Danny Murphy was a bit more specific about the changes Newcastle need to make to turn displays like this into wins.

"They looked a really good side. The only thing that was lacking, which is unusual with the quality forwards they have got, was that bit of calmness and decision-making in the final third.

“Other than that, Eddie Howe should be really pleased with the level of performance.

“They controlled the game for long periods and had a lot of joy down the left side.

“It is just about finding the right option.”

We are screaming out for another winger and Sunday was proof

We know how talented our wingers are. Jacob Murphy has been immense lately, but had a really poor game yesterday. Harvey Barnes plucked his wick out but couldn't find an end product either.

When Anthony Gordon replaced Murphy he got us a penalty decision almost immediately before it was rightly overturned as the foul started outside the box, but after that, other than a shot that soared over the bar, even Gordon struggled to do anything of note.

It happens a lot to Newcastle that they run out of ideas in the final third, and this is when we are screaming for another quality winger to have on the bench to try and mix things up.

We get why he didn't do it, but it seemed like the perfect game to bring on Will Osula just to have him confuse the hell out of the Brighton defence. He barely even knows where he's going half the time, but his pace and strength and the fact that he is fearless and will take on a shot makes him a good option to mix things up.
