Danish striker Nicolai Jorgensen still hasn't got over his Newcastle United dream not being realised

Back in 2018 Newcastle United were chasing the signature of Danish forward Nicolai Jorgensen but Feyenoord resisted the Magpies' advances and Jorgensen remained at the Dutch side.

There were times when it looked as though the deal was going to get done and the 41-times capped Danish international was heading to Newcastle, but the move never happened.

Almost seven years on and it seems as though the 33-year-old is still not happy that the move collapsed.

Jorgensen has been speaking to Tipsbladet and insists that he should have been allowed to join Newcastle.

Jorgensen has recently hung up his boots and called time on his playing career after being without a club for over two years, and it seems like he was excited about a move to Newcastle before the deal fell through.

“I had the opportunity to make a big change several times, and it would have been great to try. Newcastle made some bids which were far higher than what I expected to be sold for.

“But then it wasn’t closed, I don’t think there were any who came closer than them. Feyenoord couldn’t find a replacement, and that’s how it ended a couple of times.”

Jorgensen ultimately made 151 outings for Feyenoord racking up 58 goals and 28 assists playing in several different positions across the front line.

Given where Newcastle were in 2018, he looks as though he would have been a more than decent signing for the Magpies.

He'd have had the mighty Yoshinori Muto to contend with upfront, and of course, Solomon Rondon, Ayoze Perez and Joselu. What might have been, eh?
