Dan Burn says Newcastle United teammate was 'amazing' in Paris as question marks loom over future
We here at NUFCFEED really enjoyed ourselves last night as not only were we treated to an exciting game of football, but we also got to dine on some delicious humble pie.
Like a lot of Newcastle United fans of late, we have been rather critical of Joe Willock this season, and indeed for much of last season, too.
The former Arsenal midfielder's drop off in form has been monumental over the past couple of campaigns. It obviously hasn't been helped that the 26-year-old has had a torrid time of it with injuries that have clearly knocked his confidence.
However, last night, Willock was a star for Newcastle in Paris as the marauding midfielder netted the important goal on the stroke of half-time that kept Newcastle in the game and set up their domination in the second half.
Joe Willock looks set to stay at Newcastle beyond January
Willock's future has been the topic of a lot of speculation with Crystal Palace and Leeds United both reportedly keen, but with just a few days left in the window, it now seems highly unliekly that that Willock will be departing this month.
Eddie Howe sang Willock's praises in this post-match press conference last night.
"Joe got the goal, and it was Joe Willock of old. He was always a scorer of big goals. I know when he first joined the club, his goal record was really strong.
"He scored a couple of goals at the start of my time at the club. I am really pleased for him, he has had a tough time with injuries."
Dan Burn says Joe Willock has been looking good in training
Meanwhile, last night's captain, Dan Burn, was also full of praise for the dynamic midfielder and praised his work in training (via The Chronicle).
"I thought Joe was amazing tonight. We know as a squad how good he is as a player. He has had a lot of bad luck with injuries.
"But that shows the quality that he has. He has not played as many games as he would have liked but we know how good he is."
