Newcastle United are having a bit of a defensive injury crisis with both Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall out injured for a number of weeks.

Dan Burn has had to step in to cover at left-back, which he has done before for Eddie Howe, albeit not very successfully. The 6'7" defender is far better when played as a centre-back, but needs must.

The Blyth-born star is currently away on international duty with England, and while he didn't feature for England in last night's 3-0 win over Wales, Burn has confirmed that his latest injury is not the reason why.

Speaking after the game, Burn confirmed that he broke a bone in his hand on Sunday as Newcastle beat Nottingham Forest 2-0.

Dan Burn is ready to play for England despite injury

'This is nothing' - Dan Burn taking a broken hand like a champ

Despite the break, Burn isn't expected to miss any action for club or country, as he told The Northern Echo.

“I actually broke my hand [in the Nottingham Forest game], I don't even know how I did it, I think I went to grab someone and then I felt a crack. It was early in the second half, so I went for the scan and I have seen a specialist.

“I've been told I can play with it. I am ready for Latvia, I am ready for Newcastle, and I'd have been ready to play [against Wales] too.

“I will not be missing any time for a broken hand. This is nothing, I’ve had worse injuries than this. I’m ready to go and ready to play.”

Dan Burn could help England secure qualification to next year's World Cup on Tuesday night

A hand injury is nothing to the man with nine fingers.

We expect Burn to play a part in England's World Cup Qualifier against Latvia on Tuesday, where the Three Lions could confirm their place in next year's competition with a win, depending on other results over the weekend.

As much as we don't like seeing Burn at left-back due to his lack of pace often being exposed, the lack of other realistic options means we hope that the broken hand is the only injury he comes back to Newcastle with next week.
