It is a cliche when people say, 'It's nothing personal, just business,' and while football fans don't often see things that way when big deals are being worked on, it's just as well those involved do.
As a prime example, the way Steve Parish conducted himself during the summer when Newcastle United and Crystal Palace were negotiating over Marc Guehi, many fans would never attempt to deal with the man again. However, those in charge know there'd be no sense in that approach and will more than likely end up in negotiations with Parish again at some point with the slate wiped clean.
That ability to separate the business from the personal could now benefit Newcastle United's former sporting director Dan Ashworth.
Ashworth didn't exactly endear himself to Newcastle fans with the way he engineered his exit from the club which is why so many of us revelled in the fact that his tenure at Manchester United was such a brief one.
However, The Chronicle are now reporting that Newcastle's majority owners, the Saudi Arabia PIF are contemplating offering Ashworth a job.
The PIF want Ashworth to relocate to Saudi to take up the sporting director role at one of their Saudi Pro League clubs.
It's believed the PIF want Ashworth to link up with Cristiano Ronaldo, Jhon Duran, Sadio Mane and Ayemeric Laporte at Al-Nassr to oversee their future recruitment.
The PIF must have liked what they saw during his brief stint at Newcastle and believe that Dan Ashworth could do a job with the near-unlimited resources at his disposal in Saudi Arabia.
Good luck to the little man, but if he really wants to make it up to the Newcastle fans, then acquiring Sean Longstaff for £50 million wouldn't be a bad way to say sorry.
That'd sort our PSR issues right out and the rest of the Premier League will just have to chuffing like it because if Jhon Duran is worth £64 milllion, then why not?
