Dan Ashworth said to be 'reluctant' to join Manchester United for one big reason

Dan Ashworth could soon be on his way to Manchester United if their new head of footballing operations has his way.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Dave Brailsford are on the hunt for a new Director of Football to come in and sort out the mess at Manchester United and it has been heavily suggested that Newcastle United's Dan Ashworth is the first name on their wish list.

Ashworth joined Newcastle just over 18 months ago to spearhead the changes at the club to improve how the club is run, the dynamic between each level at the club including the women's team and he also has a big hand in transfers.

There's still a lot of work to be done at Newcastle

It is a monumental task and one that has many long-term goals and that could be the reason Ashworth stays at Newcastle.

We've said that it would be harsh for Ashworth to leave so early into the project, but with Ratcliffe reportedly ready to offer Ashworth anything and everything, it would be hard for him to turn down.

Now The Independent has claimed that Ashworth is reluctant to leave Newcastle after such little time in the role.

"Newcastle United's Dan Ashworth is currently reluctant to go to Old Trafford, due to the scope of his role at St James' Park.

"It is understood the Manchester club would have to go very high with a financial offer and well-defined terms to tempt him."

This situation needs resolving quickly

It's good to see that there's still a chance that Ashworth will do the right thing, but with his pre-existing relationship with Ratcliffe and the potential money being offered, coupled with getting to work at one of the most high-profile clubs in world football and being the man who fixes it, we can see how it would be tempting.

In fact, I think I've just convinced myself that he'd be a fool not to go. Whoops.

Whatever happens, we just hope it happens quickly. Having uncertainty like this hanging over the club is never a good thing.
