Newcastle United fans are no strangers to the odd outlandish transfer story, and we like to think that here at NUFCFeed, we're pretty good at weeding out the credible from the outrageous.

This latest rumour involves a player exit, but would also see a player coming Newcastle's way as part of the deal, and for us, it certainly falls into the outrageous category.

Sometimes you can just tell when someone has made up a transfer story because it's so easy to see.

Manchester City have an interest in Tino Livramento, that's not news, and Newcastle tried to sign James Trafford in the summer, but he ultimately went to Man City to be displaced by Gianluigi Donnarumma. Two plus two equals...?

Newcastle are desperate to keep hold of Tino Livramento

Man City to offer James Trafford for Tino Livramento? Howay man!

TEAMtalk have been doing silly transfer mathematics, and they've decided that just because it's the type of deal you'd try and do on Football Manager, Manchester City are ready to offer James Trafford as part of a deal to land Tino Livramento in January.

Their report says that the news is a 'gut punch' to Newcastle. I highly doubt it, given that it's coming from a bored football writer's imagination.

Even if there were some truth to it, there's nothing to say that Newcastle would even entertain the idea.

Newcastle won't be selling Tino Livramento, especially not in January

Tino Livramento is a massive player for Newcastle, and the plan is to tie him down to a bumper new contract in recognition of his progress since his £32 million move from Southampton.

As for James Trafford, Newcastle have Aaron Ramsdale on loan until the end of the season, so they won't be looking for a goalkeeper in January, especially not one to replace an outgoing full-back.

This just smacks of it being an easy connection to make, so they ran with it without putting any real thought behind the reality of the situation.
