Newcastle United would do well to keep their options open as they pursue new strikers this summer, having missed out on several targets already.

Brentford's Yoane Wissa is trying to force a move to St James' Park by downing tools after feeling like the club has reneged on a promise made to him last season. It's messy, but we expect that one will get done.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Sesko is the main target as a replacement for Alexander Isak, whether he replaces him immediately or gets a season working alongside him first.

However, Manchester United are thought to be the favourites to land the RB Leipzig striker if he gets to make the choice between the two clubs.

Jorgen Strand Larsen is a target for Newcastle

Newcastle have their eye on Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen

There have been a few other names mentioned who could be on Newcastle's list, but Craig Hope has now dropped another name into the mix in his recent Q&A for the Daily Mail.

Hope suggests Newcastle are looking at Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Jorgen Strand Larson, before offering up a very big reason why this one seems so unlikely.

"Now here is a name given to me in the past 24 hours that has been described as the ‘dark horse’ from the list of possibles - Jorgen Strand Larsen. The Norwegian striker only made permanent his move to Wolves this summer after a successful loan last season, but I’m told that 14 Premier League goals during that debut campaign have not gone unnoticed inside Newcastle."

Wolves have just signed Jorgen Strand Larson on a permanent deal this summer

It's not unheard of for a club to sign a player after an impressive loan spell, then immediately sell them on, but we just don't see Wolves rolling over to let us have Strand Larson so soon after making him a permanent signing.

That being said, we have seen a fair bit of support for a move for Strand Larson online, so if Newcastle could find a way to sign the Norwegian, it could go down well amongst the fanbase.

It just doesn't make a lot of sense to us that Wolves would allow the deal to happen, so we'll not be holding our breath on this one.
