While David Ornstein makes the claim that Newcastle United have sent intermediaries to talk with Jorgen Strand Larsen, Craig Hope has given a more detailed update on the Magpies' striker search.

Newcastle have been on the hunt for centre forwards since the transfer window opened this summer, but have hit roadblock after roadblock along the way and now, with under two weeks until the window shuts, things are starting to get desperate.

It was clear at Villa Park on Saturday that Newcastle are in dire need of a goalscorer and a target man for Anthony Elanga to aim for, as that was all that was missing from the Magpies' performance.

Newcastle's shortlist is whittling down, and now Craig Hope has claimed that the two separate lists, one to replace Callum Wilson and one to replace/backup Alexander Isak, are now merging into one.

Craig Hope says the two lists of strikers have become one

Taking to X to provide an update, Craig Hope gave some names of who Newcastle are looking at, but then moved to effectively scrub a couple out of the running.

Newcastle’s search for strikers continues

The 2 lists they were working from (Isak replacement, Wilson replacement) are merging into one

[Yoane] Wissa, [Goncalo] Ramos, [Jorgen Strand] Larsen, [Rodrigo] Muniz, Samu [Agehowa] … there aren’t many options now

More Wissa developments expected today, & Isak future directly linked…

Fans called for clarification on that last point, as it was understood that Yoane Wissa's arrival would not impact Alexander Isak, with Hope saying that without Wissa's arrival, there's even less chance that Alexander Isak will be allowed to leave.

Not much longer of this persistent agony and disappointment

Hope went on to say that Samu seems an unlikely move as things never got beyond the initial enquiry phase, while also claiming Nicolas Jackson is still on the list, although not considered a priority just yet

As time ticks on, the likelihood of acquiring two strikers before the window closes gets smaller and smaller.

This time in two weeks, it'll all be over, and we can just focus on what we've got.
