Craig Hope flip-flops on transfer story as Newcastle United reportedly consider move for Malick Thiaw
With all of the striker drama, it's easy to forget that Newcastle United are still in the hunt for a new centre-back this summer.
It is still being reported that the Magpies retain an interest in Marc Guehi, although once again it's believed that he would prefer a move to Liverpool.
One player Newcastle have kept an eye on is Malick Thiaw from AC Milan, who earlier this window rejected a move to Como after Milan accepted a £21 million bid.
The fact that their bid was accepted should give Newcastle hope that they know what it would take to sign the German.

News broke on Tuesday that Newcastle were considering a move for the 23-year-old, but then on Wednesday morning, Craig Hope poured cold water on fans' dreams again, saying that Milan were to reject a £26 million offer from Newcastle, only for him to then post just a few minutes later that there had been no bid.

If the bid hasn't been made, it can't have been rejected, so that has to be a way to frame this as a positive, and we need to find the positives right now.
Less than four weeks of this agony to go
If Milan were prepared to sell Thiaw earlier in the window, then surely a deal between the two clubs should be easy enough to achieve; it's just a case of convincing the player.
Thiaw was reportedly keen on the move last summer when Newcastle were thought to be interested; however, so was James Trafford, and he still went elsewhere.
Oh, what fun this window is, and we still have over three weeks to go. Surely things have to turn a corner for us between now and 1st September.
