Newcastle United are absolutely desperate to bring in at least one centre-forward before next Monday's transfer deadline.

As things stand, Newcastle only have Will Osula available as a recognised striker, with Alexander Isak on strike, trying to force a move to Liverpool.

Eddie Howe started the season with Anthony Gordon as a makeshift centre-forward after Osula failed to seize his opportunity to impress during pre-season.

Gordon has played as a centre-forward several times for Eddie Howe, but other than one penalty, has failed to score while playing as a striker.

Florian Plettenberg says Will Osula could leave Newcastle this summer

As Newcastle struggles to replace the released Callum Wilson and the potentially outgoing Alexander Isak, the idea of letting another forward leave the club is absolute insanity.

However, Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has said that Will Osula is one to watch before deadline day, with Bayer Leverkusen monitoring the situation.

🚨🆕 William #Osula is one to watch until Deadline Day.

The 22 y/o striker could still leave Newcastle in the coming days. There is also interest from the Bundesliga. Bayer 04 Leverkusen have him on their radar, but nothing is advanced yet.

In what world does this make sense?

There is absolutely no way Will Osula leaves Newcastle United this summer. Even if the Magpies somehow pull off a miracle and sign the two strikers they've been trying for all summer, they still won't let Osula leave.

You would think that Plettenberg would have given himself a common-sense check before hitting post on that tweet. Even if this was something he's been told by one of his sources.

Letting a striker go when you have a striker crisis is the footballing equivalent of hitting the self-destruct button. Regardless of how Eddie Howe feels about his ability right now, it just doesn't make any sense.
