'Could have done more': Brazilian media deliver verdict on Bruno Guimaraes as Brazil held by Tunisia
Bruno Guimaraes couldn't end his latest international break with another win as Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw with Tunisia at the Decathlon Arena in Lille.
The Newcastle United captain was in from the start as Brazil brought the curtain down on their action for the year.
Chelsea's Estevao looked absolutely brilliant once again for Brazil, and it was his goal from the spot on 44 minutes that restored parity after Hazem Mastouri put Tunisia into the lead on 23 minutes.
Brazil were awarded another penalty in the second half, but this time West Ham's Lucas Paqueta stepped up to take it and tried a clever run-up and ultimately put the ball well over the bar.
Bruno Guimaraes played an hour for Brazil against Tunisia
Lucas Paqueta was on the pitch in place of his best mate Bruno Guimaraes, who was hooked after an hour. It wasn't really Bruno's night, and that was reflected in the 6/10 given to him by GOAL, who felt it could have done more.
“Got into the right areas but could have done more with the possession he had.”
Globo Esporte gave the Toon captain the same rating but was a bit more complimentary with their write-up.
“He wasn’t as influential as in other matches during the Ancelotti era. He offered many options through the middle with positioning between the lines and attempts to infiltrate, but there were many players in front of the Tunisian penalty area, which made it very difficult for them to attack down that flank.”
Bruno can now focus on rallying the troops for Saturday
Bruno returns to Newcastle now to gear up for taking on Manchester City on their own turf on Saturday.
It's going to be a massive game, so we're glad that Bruno's travel during this break was minimal, especially when compared to the trip to Asia last time, or even having to return to Brazil.
With Erling Haaland in the form he's in right now, we're bracing ourselves for a very tough evening on Saturday.
