Today saw the opening of the new STACK Fan Zone at St James' Park ahead of the new Premier League season.

Originally, the fan area was supposed to open for the European Championships to give football fans a place to go to cheer on England but the project fell behind.

Thankfully all the work is now done and the new STACK zone opened today and will now be open every day going forward with fans expected to flock to the venue over the weekend as the Sela Weekender takes place.

However, as part of the promotional media via NUFC TV, Newcastle's commercial director has created a bit of confusion with what he said surrounding match days.

Peter Silverstone has caused some confusion with his words

In a clip posted on X, Silverstone speaks about the matchday experience at STACK saying:

"When Newcastle United is playing this place will be rocking. St James' Park is consistently voted the best atmosphere in the Premier League. Not everyone, unfortunately, can get into the stadium because we have so much demand for tickets.

"But here is an opportunity to watch with your fellow fans in STACK presented by Sela. We know what 52,000 people can do inside that stadium, what 3000 people can do in a smaller, more intimate environment I that it'll be just as passionate, just as loud, kicking every ball. It's going to be incredible."

STACK will only show televised games

That would suggest that every game will be shown at the STACK venue on the screens, however, we reached out to Paul Karter of the Newcastle United Supporters Trust and he told us that it will only be televised games shown.

"Correct. No non-televised games at the stack"

The STACK venue is not officially part of St James' Park, so if you want to watch the game you'll either need a ticket or you can watch it in Shearer's Bar at the ground.

This backs up what was reported in The Chronicle a couple of days ago too, so it seems that Mr Silverstone could perhaps have chosen his words better.
