Monday saw a mad scramble by AFC Wimbledon after they discovered that the adverse weather had caused massive damage to their Plough Lane pitch.

With a fixture against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup set to be played the next day, Wimbledon had a huge task ahead of them in rearranging the fixture.

Thankfully Newcastle and the EFL came to an agreement with Wimbledon to host the match at St James' Park next week so that the London club didn't have to forfeit the fixture.

As the game was originally set for Plough Lane, Newcastle will pay a portion of the gate receipts to Wimbledon which should net them a tidy sum.

Newcastle donated £15k and the Toon Army have been extremely generous

As well as that though, Wimbledon fans set up a crowdfunding page via Just Giving which has seen many Newcastle fans chip in to help towards the cost of pitch repairs.

The page started with a modest goal of raising £10,000 but that was soon surpassed and the total was raised to £50,000.

That too was breezed past thanks in part to a £15,000 donation from Newcastle United which was great to see.

The new target is £150k and its well on the way to being hit

As of 10am on Wednesday the target has been raised to £150,000 and the total stands at £93,000.

If you want to chip in and help Wimbledon get that portal to the underworld which opened up in the corner of their pitch filled you can do so by going to the Just Giving Page.

We are so proud of our supporters for helping out a club in need, and it was a great gesture by the club to donate £15k on top of the gate receipts.
