A right winger is a priority for Newcastle United this summer when the transfer window with Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo thought to be the Magpies' top target.

However, the club knows they can't put all their eggs in one basket and, as such, have created a comprehensive list of other targets ranging in value and potential.

Paul Mitchell's overall goal at Newcastle is to find young talent and nurture them through the academy into first-team players and potential future stars.

While that's a fantastic goal, Newcastle need players ready to go straight into the first team this summer, and that will be driving what the club is looking for when the window opens.

Chris Sutton doesn't think Nicolas Kuhn has what it takes to make it at Newcastle

One player Newcastle have identified as someone to fill that right-wing position is Celtic's Nicolas Kuhn, who had an amazing start to the season in the Scottish Premier League. However, his form has dipped, and former Celtic man Chris Sutton told The Warm Up that he believes it may see Newcastle move to other targets.

“Nicolas Kuhn, his drop-off in form.

“You know talk of Newcastle, who were impressed with him earlier on in the season.

“But personally, I think you have to show consistency all the way through the season.

“And that may have been a certain blot on his copybook.”

If Newcastle United pick up Bryan Mbeumo, the Nicolas Kuhn question becomes moot

Nicolas Kuhn has racked up 10 goals and eight assists in 28 SPL outings this season, which are good numbers, but the majority of those goal contributions came in the opening weeks. His output has dropped off dramatically in the second half of the season.

Obviously, Newcastle will do their due diligence and will look way beyond his form over one season, but a move for the 25-year-old does seem increasingly unlikely.

A lot of what Newcastle do this summer will depend on what happens with the pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo we reckon.
