Chris Sutton puts kiss of death on Newcastle United as he predicts score against Leeds United
Newcastle United are looking to build on their recent win over Crystal Palace by beating Leeds United at St James' Park on Wednesday night, live on Sky Sports. Kick-off is at 8:15 pm.
The Magpies should be full of confidence going into this home tie against Leeds United after picking up back-to-back wins in the Premier League for only the second time this season.
However, Eddie Howe's record against Leeds is absolutely abysmal, with just two wins in 11 attempts as manager of Newcastle and Bournemouth. So that's something to keep in mind.
Leeds probably should have beaten Manchester United on Sunday, but their 1-1 draw was enough to ring the death knell for Ruben Amorim.
Chris Sutton predicts a routine win for Newcastle United ... kind of
Chris Sutton has ignored the Eddie Howe stat and his own thoughts when predicting the score for the BBC.
"Newcastle not only got three points against Palace at the weekend, they kept their first clean sheet in the league since the start of October.
"Leeds have gone seven games unbeaten, including a deserved draw in the north-east against Sunderland, and they will be full of confidence.
"These two sides drew 0-0 at Elland Road in August but there will definitely be goals this time.
"I always back Newcastle at home, so why should I change now? The only thing I'm unsure about here is whether Leeds will score.
"I'm going to say they won't, so stand by for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to find the net again, probably in stoppage time.
"Sutton's prediction: 2-0"
A stoppage-time Leeds United equaliser seems to be on the cards now
We hope his actual score prediction is right, but after we said we'd had visions of a Sean Longstaff screamer in stoppage time, and now Sutton has said similar about Dominic Calvert-Lewin, we don't know what to think.
That stat about Howe's record against Leeds is going to keep me up all night. However, records mean nothing; things can change at any time. We've got this.
