The mood around Newcastle United has lifted somewhat over the past week thanks to some positive transfer news.

Newcastle are working hard to bring in Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace while also signing a promising young striker as back-up for the injury twins up front.

And while the Magpies are struggling to move on players they no longer need - like, seriously, how have they not got rid of Ryan Fraser yet? - The one player linked with a move away is one of three players that would cause ructions if the club let go now.

Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes look safe and content, but there's still an air of mystery around the future of Anthony Gordon who has been linked with a move to Liverpool since the PSR Deadline Day fiasco.

Chris Sutton has urged Anthony Gordon to stay put

Gordon was Newcastle's best player last season as evidenced by being bestowed with the Player of the Year award, but ever since it was mentioned that the club looked at selling him for big money to balance the books for PSR, the links have never stopped.

Gordon returned to training this week after his extended leave and looked all happy and smiley out on the training pitch.

We're still confident that Gordon will stay, especially now that his mate Marc Guehi looks to be coming in, but just in case, former Blackburn striker Chris Sutton has urged Gordon to stay put.

Speaking to Best Online Poker Sites (via The Chronicle), Sutton said that Gordon's chance at Liverpool will come but for now, he should stay where he is.

Needless to say, Chris, we wouldn't feel good about it, mate

“I heard these Anthony Gordon rumours a few months ago and was left scratching my head a little bit. First and foremost, I don’t know how Newcastle fans would feel about selling the player.

“The way Gordon was at Everton, I wasn’t the only person who questioned whether he had the right temperament. But in fairness to him, he’s gone to Newcastle to work under Eddie Howe and he’s knuckled down. Last season he was brilliant and performed really well. He produced his best form.

“If I was him, I wouldn’t be in a rush to leave Howe and Newcastle. The fans there really took to him – he felt the love from the Geordies. He seemed to have a really good relationship with the manager too which is key.

“The Liverpool move is attractive and will come one day. But staying at Newcastle is the sensible option.”
