Newcastle United are fighting tooth and nail to land England centre-back Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this week.
The Magpies and Palace have been locked in talks for a while now and as of Monday things finally appear to be heating up with a resolution expected one way or another very soon.
Newcastle have submitted a £60 million bid, believed to be their final attempt and Crystal Palace, at time of writing, are still considering the offer which is just £5 million shy of their valuation.
Should the deal fall through for whatever reason, it would be natural to assume that Newcastle would return to the table for AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw.
Newcastle had been reported to have been close to an agreement with the German centre-back on several occasions, although those reports have clearly been proven to be false since.
That being said, talks did take place with Paul Mitchell and Thiaw's representatives, but the Daily Mail now claim that a move is completely off the table.
Owing to AC Milan's participation in the Champions League, the 23-year-old is reluctant to leave his current club this summer.
It's an understandable, yet frustrating stance by the young star, but hopefully, it's one that has no relevance in the coming days.
If Newcastle get their man in Marc Guehi, it won't be long before Malick Thiaw is relegated to an "Oh remember him?" type thought in Geordie minds.
Thiaw would have been considerably cheaper than what Guehi is looking to be but you get what you pay for ... most of the time.
