Newcastle United, or as they should be known right now, Goalkeeper United could be about to receive some bad news from north of the border.
After tracking Euro 2024 superstar Giorgi Mamardashvili and young England goalkeeper James Trafford, Eddie Howe inexplicably brought in veteran goalkeeper John Ruddy and Nottingham Forest flop Odysseas Vlachodimos while also handing Mark Gillespie a new deal.
Even though Loris Karius has already departed the club after his contract expires, that now leaves Newcastle with five potential first-team 'keepers with Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka still on the books.
Not content with that, either, there are rumours that Newcastle are still set to press ahead to sign James Trafford this summer, although we feel that should that happen, the move will be to loan him back to Burnley for a season.
It was looking like Martin Dubravka was on his way out of St James' Park, though, with a move to Celtic looking likely all through Euro 2024, but now that move looks set to collapse.
After Joe Hart hung up his boots, Celtic were in the market for a replacement and Dubravka looked like their number one choice.
However, as Fabrizio Romano reports, it now looks like that's no longer the case with Kasper Schmeichel set to undergo a medical at Celtic this week.
There's still plenty of time to find Dubravka a new club, and we do believe he will be sold this summer, but it does leave that one position awfully congested for now.
We're still not sure how the goalkeepers will work going forward other than Nick Pope is likely number one and Vlachodimos will be number two. As for Ruddy and Gillespie, who knows?
And if Newcastle do land James Trafford and don't loan him back to Burnley then we will be completely baffled.
