Newcastle United's former No. 9 Callum Wilson left the club at the start of the month as the 33-year-old recognised his minutes at Newcastle would be very minimal next season.

Wilson was offered a pay-as-you-play deal to remain on Tyneside, but the former England striker opted to move and is now without a club as he assesses his options.

It was always expected that Wilson would have at least one offer to remain in the Premier League if he left the Magpies.

Leeds United were thought to be looking to add some much-needed Premier League experience to their lineup, but things have gone quiet on that front.

Burnley are considering a move for Callum Wilson

Instead, Mike McGrath is reporting that last season's Championship runners-up, Burnley, are keen to add the forward to their ranks.

Former Newcastle player Scott Parker is in the hot seat at Turf Moor, and it's believed that a move for Wilson has received the backing of the squad and the staff to give Wilson another stint in the Premier League.

However, Mike McGrath also notes that Wilson has offers from abroad to consider, too.

Burnley were on the hunt for an experienced striker

McGrath had previously written about Burnley looking at Wilson, along with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jamie Vardy as potential free transfer options who could add some experience to their forward line ahead of the new season.

It now sounds as though they have landed on Callum Wilson, so it now just remains to be seen whether they make an approach and what Wilson's future plans are.

It would be nice to see Wilson remain in the Premier League, so long as he's not scoring against us.
