Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson's football career is up in the air as things stand with his contract at the Toon close to expiring.

Talks are reportedly underway for the 49-goal striker to stay at St James' Park on an incentivised deal, but the 33-year-old is also being looked at by other Premier League clubs.

It has been expected for a while that Callum Wilson would leave Newcastle this summer after a long list of injuries has kept him out of the team way more than he's been in it over the last couple of seasons.

Wilson signed for Newcastle for £20 million from Bournemouth and has been one of the club's most prolific strikers; however, injuries really slowed down his progress.

Callum Wilson will try his hand at punditry this weekend

Callum Wilson is well-liked at the club and is often named as the player who likes to joke around the most in the dressing room, so his influence will be a big miss if he does leave this summer.

Meanwhile, though, the No.9 has found himself a gig to keep him distracted for a few days as he will be a pundit for DAZN during the Club World Cup as reported by The Chronicle.

"DAZN has revealed the presentation team that will feature across it and 5’s coverage of the FIFA Club World Cup.

"Ade Oladipo, Kelly Somers, Olivia Buzaglo and James Richardson will host alongside pundits including John Obi Mikel, Sami Khedira, Christian Vieri, Ronaldo, Shay Given, Callum Wilson, Claude Makélélé, Kleberson, Mamadou Sakho, and Lianne Sanderson.

"Meanwhile, Conor McNamara, Rich Wolfenden, Dan O’Hagan, Mike Minay, Pete Odgers, Brandon Smith, Joe Speight, and Jess Charman will commentate alongside co-commentators Andros Townsend, Michael Brown, Brad Friedel, Rob Green, Danny Higginbotham, Don Hutchison, Jonas Olsson, and Anita Asante."

Wilson did co-host a podcast with West Ham's Michail Antonio, and the two made for an entertaining duo, so we know that Wilson has got what it takes to work in media.

Could it be a future career for Wilson?

Who knows, if this goes well for Wilson, he may hang up his boots and move into broadcasting full time.

Although we doubt that will happen, as Wilson was quoted recently as saying, he still feels he's got plenty to give.

Wherever Wilson ends up and whatever he ends up doing, we wish him all the luck in the world. Beyond the frustrating injury issues, Wilson has been a fantastic player for Newcastle, and he always comes across as a very likeable guy, so as much as we've slagged him off for never being available, it takes nothing away from the respect we have for what he's done for the club.
