Eddie Howe is very aware of what a special talent he has on his hands at Newcastle United and why his star striker is coveted so much.

Reports this week suggest that two Premier League clubs are lining up £100million raids on Newcastle in the summer for their record signing Alexander Isak, but both Eddie Howe and the player himself have pretty much told them not to bother.

Isak has been speaking about how much he loves it at Newcastle and how he feels at home and that he's bought into the project, while Eddie Howe recently said the club has no desire to see him leave.

The Sweden international bagged his 19th goal of the season against Everton last night, his 15th in the Premier League. That puts him just three goals behind the Nordic Cyborg, Erling Haaland with eight games to go.

Still more to come from Alexander Isak

Eddie Howe sees unlimited potential in Isak

That's already impressive, but when you consider how much football he has missed this season, it just shows how devastating his strike rate actually is.

Now Eddie Howe has spoken of how he feels Isak has 'limitless potential', telling The Northern Echo that he's still building confidence.

“For me, Alex has limitless potential.

“You’ve got someone who has had really good experiences in his career. He’s travelled as a young player and had some experience of different leagues.

“I think he’s come to us at a really good time of his career where we can help him, develop his talents and give him a platform to show how good he is. I think at the moment, he’s building in confidence all the time. He’s a high-level player and we’re delighted to have him with us.”

A fully fit and confident Isak would be a scary thing for the Premier League to witness

It just seems that if Isak could stay fit for an entire season, putting together a good run of games and goals to really solidify that confidence, then there would be no stopping him.

I had already backed him to push Erling Haaland for the Golden Boot this season, and both players have had their injury troubles so it is actually a close race, but even over the course of a season without injuries, I'd back Isak to be right up there alongside the Manchester City machine.

The longer we can keep hold of Isak the more likely we are to start winning trophies again. WIth a striker of that calibre, you're already starting from a stronger position than most.
