It seems it wasn't just the fans that were caught on the hop by the news coming out of Newcastle United towards the back end of the week.

After a news report broke claiming that Amanda Staveley would be selling her minority stake in Newcastle United back to the club and stepping away from all duties, the majority of fans have been in disbelief.

The news came out of nowhere, despite the fact that Staveley had recently diluted her stake from 10% down to 6% which seemed to be a way for the financier to raise capital in the wake of being taken to court for a bankruptcy case that did not go in her favour.

Since then it has kind of felt that Staveley's position was on shaky ground, especially as anyone in charge of a football club can not have been declared bankrupt.

Bruno: Classy to the end

Bruno Guimaraes expressed his sadness at the news of the couple's departure

Friday night saw confirmation from the club and from Amanda Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi that she will be selling her 6% stake back to the club and the shares would be divided by the PIF and RB Sports & Media who will own 85% and 15% of Newcastle United respectively.

However, it wasn't just the fans who were caught out by the news as Amanda Staveley reposted a message from Bruno Guimaraes on her Instagram reel with Bruno admitting he had no idea what was coming.

“Very sad by the news, thank you both for what you have done for the club. I still don't believe in it.

“Wishing you all the best for the future and thank you once again for pushing me into the club! Always will be grateful @amandastaveley and @mehrdadghodoussi.”

Bruno thanked Amanda and Mehrdad for bringing him to Newcastle

It was just another demonstration of Bruno's class and kindness, and not only that but it's yet another nail in the coffin of those who believe Bruno wants to leave Newcastle as he thanked the couple for bringing him to Newcastle.

Of course, Bruno has been in the USA with Brazil competing in the Copa America and is likely enjoying some time at home before returning to Newcastle, so he won't have been around the club, but if the news had got out before the announcement, you'd assume that someone would have told him.

It just goes to show how quickly and quietly it all happened.
