Bruno Guimaraes issues big statement with Brazil qualified for next year's World Cup
Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes is dreaming of lifting the ultimate football trophy.
Having already hoisted the Carabao Cup, there's not much higher the Brazilian can go. He missed his opportunity to lift the Intertoto Certificate of Destiny so now he's just going to have to make do with lifting the World Cup with Brazil.
Brazil haven't exactly been striking fear into the world of football of late, but they are starting to show signs of improvement under Carlo Ancelotti and Newcastle's captain is a big part of the transformation.
Bruno has been given more license to play his regular game under Ancelotti and is thriving in doing so.
Bruno Guimaraes is full of admiration for Carlo Ancelotti
Brazil are below England in terms of favourites to lift the trophy next summer, but Bruno isn't letting that stop him from dreaming big and he believes Carlo Ancelotti can deliver, as he told reporters after Brazil's 2-0 win over Senegal at the weekend (via Newcastle World).
“Since Ancelotti arrived, he fixed what for me was the main issue. We were conceding too many goals. The Brazilian national team cannot concede so many goals like we were suffering. He organised everything. I think we now have much more confidence to play with him. He gave confidence to everyone.
“Brazil, every time you ask anyone, arrives as a favourite. The country with the most World Cups will always be one of the favourites. But I think we’re on a very good upward path, and I hope we can arrive there and win, not only be the favourite. This time we want to consolidate and put the sixth star on the chest.”
It's coming home
Brazil are fourth-favourites behind England, France and Spain and have a fair bit to do to convince people that they are ready to win the whole thing.
Their qualifying campaign didn't exactly inspire confidence, but much of that wasn't under Ancelotti, and then of course, he had to gradually put his stamp on things.
Still, sorry Bruno mate, but ... IT'S COMING HOME!
