Brazil have made it to next year's World Cup with a win in Carlo Ancelotti's second game in charge, and Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes was at the centre of it for better or worse.
Brazil were less than impressive in Ancelotti's first game in charge, which they drew 0-0 with Ecuador, but things looked better for the Selecao in the early hours of Wednesday morning as they beat Miguel Almiron's Paraguay 1-0 to secure their place in next year's competition, thanks to a goal from Vini Jr.
Bruno played the full 90 for Brazil, receiving praise from the Brazilian media for his energy after almost scoring late in the game.
However, it wasn't all praise for the Newcastle United captain as his discipline was called into question.
We've seen it many times for Newcastle, if things aren't going his way, Bruno can start to lose his temper, and that's a criticism that was levelled at him last night by GOAL, who gave our skipper a rating of 6/10.
“Not exactly the model of discipline, but played the role of enforcer with glee, and kept the ball moving.”
We absolutely love Bruno's passion, but it will get him into trouble one of these days.
Globo Esporte handed Bruno an extra 0.5 with their rating, handing the 27-year-old a rating of 6.5/10, highlighting his inconsistent passing as an issue.
“He alternated between good and bad moments. Sometimes he would make a pass that broke the lines, sometimes he would miss a simple touch. He was important in “dragging” the marking and giving fluidity to the midfield. Intense until the end, he almost scored with a shot from the edge of the area in the 43rd minute of the second half, but was stopped by the goalkeeper.”
It's time for Bruno to rest up before next season now, and we're sure he'll be heading home to get ready for Sandro Tonali's wedding.
