It was a mixed night for two of Newcastle United's South American internationals as Brazil and Paraguay met in the World Cup qualifiers.

Bruno Guimaraes who is on the shortlist for Brazilian Player of the Year award may be wishing the voting had already taken place before last night's game.

Things really aren't clicking for Brazil lately and they seem to be losing games you'd back them to win comfortably.

It's hard to know who to point the finger at, but it seems that last night the finger was pointed at Bruno Guimaraes as the Newcastle captain did not appear for the second half and was instead replaced by Luiz Henrique.

Brazilian media weren't so kind to Bruno Guimaraes

Goal.com gave Bruno a 7/10 and claimed that it was a gritty performance and Brazil were worse off without him. Meanwhile, they handed out scores of four and five like carnival sweets.

Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte was much less kind giving Bruno a score of 4/10 while writing a scathing report on our beloved number 39.

“He failed to play well for the national team once again. Even though he played closer to André, he had difficulty overcoming the Paraguayan marking and verticalizing his actions with the ball. In marking, he often had to occupy spaces in a defensive transition that was far from working in the 4-1-4-1 initially planned. He gave Diego Gomez too much space to correct his poor control and finish to open the scoring.”

Bruno pipped Miguel Almiron to a better rating in Sports Dunia

The only player ratings we could find for Paraguay came from SportsDunia who rated both sides.

Miguel Almiron was handed 6.5/10 for keeping Brazil's defenders occupied on the left flank, meanwhile, Bruno Guimaraes was given 6.6/10 for his efforts.

We all know what the answer is for Bruno Guimaraes' national side ... He's Brazilian and he only cost 40 million...
