Newcastle United have to navigate the next phase of the season without one of their most important personnel, Bruno Guimaraes.

The Toon captain is expected to be out for up to 10 weeks after picking up a bad hamstring injury in the win over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night.

Newcastle's record without Bruno Guimaraes now stands at just two wins out of 14 games in all competitions, but the Magpies have never won a Premier League match without him since he arrived on Tyneside.

Eddie Howe has spoken about the importance of other players stepping up to fill the void, and Sandro Tonali did a great job of that last night as Newcastle overcame the worst refereeing display ever to defy the odds and beat Aston Villa.

Mr Guimaraes was a tad excited last night

The skipper didn't hold back at full-time, taking to Instagram to express his pride at the lads' performance via his story.

"So f------- proud of you boys!!!! Even if everything is against us we got the job done!! Love it. We keep going."

It was no doubt the pick-me-up the Brazilian needed after picking up the first major injury of his career.

Bruno Guimaraes confirmed his injury via social media

Before the game, Bruno confirmed the news of his injury via his Instagram, promising to be back stronger.

"As previously reported, for the first time in 10 years of my career, I will have to spend some time away from the pitch. I’m very saddened, but certain that God knows all things. A muscle injury will keep me out for a few weeks, but it will help strengthen me and ensure I’m even more prepared for what lies ahead.

"Thank you all for the support, messages and concern. See you soon."

The lads have proven they can win without him, and now they need to make it a regular thing with him expected to miss a good chunk of matches.
