Bruno Guimaraes has been speaking highly of Newcastle United while away on international duty with Brazil this week but the midfield maestro may have been wishing he'd stayed on Tyneside.
Brazil, for whatever reason, are a far cry from the pinnacle of football that they used to be these days, particularly in recent years.
The days of the Brazilian factory churning out players with both flair and the talent to back it up seem long gone, now you get players like Antony who can do a trick or two but hasn't got a clue what to do beyond that, or Bruno Guimaraes who can do all the fundamentals very well but rarely in an eye-catching manner.
Brazil are no longer that fun to watch, and equally, aren't really that great anymore.
Indeed, in the small ours of this morning, Brazil struggled to a 1-1 draw with Uruguay.
Despite dominating possession, Brazil couldn't find that killer pass or final third magic - kind of like Newcastle earlier this season.
Ultimately, Brazil were booed off the pitch by their own fans as their patience with whatever this current incarnation of their national side is runs out.
Fortunately for Bruno, however, he was one of the few players who could hold his head up high with Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte giving him a 7/10 and a positive write-up after a solid 86-minute outing.
“He was the team’s main driver in the first half, whether it was moving the ball around or attempting deep passes. He made good passes to Savinho and got the better of most of the duels.”
Bruno can now head back to Newcastle knowing that he didn't let his country down, even if those around him weren't on his level.
