Lewis Miley picked up a knock in the draw against Paris Saint-Germain last month and hasn't been involved for Newcastle United ever since.

Along with Sven Botman, Lewis Miley was on the bench when Newcastle faced Liverpool, but Eddie Howe admitted after the game that neither was passed fit to play, saying that Miley couldn't bend his knee.

It was later revealed that Miley had picked up a dead leg and that was affecting the movement of his knee, and initially, it sounded like he'd be back in action sooner rather than later.

Indeed, we thought he'd have been back in the starting lineup on Tuesday down at Tottenham, but that proved not to be the case, and he wasn't named in the squad at all, with Howe saying he still hadn't recovered fully.

Aston Villa game likely too soon Bruno Guimaraes

Lewis Miley is set to be missing for another week

According to Craig Hope, Lewis Miley is likely to miss Aston Villa on Saturday too, and could even be touch-and-go for the trip to Azerbaijan next week.

He won't be alone in that regard either, as Hope's latest Newcastle Confidential column claims that Bruno Guimaraes looks set to miss Aston Villa after he limped off the field on Tuesday at Spurs.

The club are expected to know more about Bruno's injury later today, so we should get a more solid update from Eddie Howe in the morning, but Howe suggests that flying Guimaraes 5000 miles to Azerbaijan and back to face Qarabag may not be the best move for his recovery, so we could see him miss both games.

Bruno Guimaraes will be a huge miss on Saturday

While we'd obviously prefer that the club takes this cautious approach and doesn't rush players back before they're ready, there's no doubt that Bruno in particular will be a huge miss at the weekend, given our inability to win without him in the side.

Lewis Miley continues to be a big miss purely for his versatility and because Kieran Trippier could certainly do with a rest at right-back.

Hopefully, the Bruno injury isn't as bad as it first looked and the scans today will reveal that. Hope says the club have been 'extra cautious' today, which suggests he hasn't trained, but we'll find out tomorrow.
