Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal waiting to pounce with PSR-busting move for Newcastle United midfielder
If Newcastle United fail to qualify for Europe this season, which is a very real possibility, it will be a huge hit to the club's bottom line and will drastically affect the transfer budget this summer.
On one hand, it would be a blessing in that the Magpies would only have to abide by the Premier League's Squad Cost Ratio rules, which are more forgiving than UEFA's, but on the other it will mean the club will earn significantly less money next season, which will limit what they'll have available to spend this summer.
Additionally, attracting players will be much harder if we can only offer them the promise of European football the following season, which is obviously not guaranteed.
However, the biggest concern for the club will be that our bigger stars may start eyeing a move away or that financial regulations may make it so that the club have no choice but to move on players they'd rather not, like we did with Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.
Arsenal are keeping tabs on Lewis Miley
Fortunately, the club have worked hard to avoid being in that position again, which will come as bad news to Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal, who, according to SportsBoom are hoping that financial worries may make Newcastle open to selling Lewis Miley.
Arsenal are already thought to be keen on Sandro Tonali, but they're also monitoring 19-year-old Miley, who has been one of Newcastle's better players this season.
Miley has impressed this season, showing off his versatility after dropping into right-back and at centre-back as Eddie Howe has been desperate for defensive cover.
If Lewis Miley is sold there'll be riots
There's no way that Newcastle would even entertain the idea of letting Lewis Miley leave, however. Lessons were learned with Elliot Anderson, or at least we'd like to think so.
Unlike Anderson, though, Miley is a regular in the Newcastle starting lineup, which makes him even more indispensable.
As much as a big-money sale for a club-grown player would do wonders for Newcastle's PSR headroom, the fact that those rules are changing next season means it absolutely has to be a non-starter. Miley is 100% the future of this club, and we should be building a team around him.
