Former Newcastle United striker Jon Dahl Tomasson looks to be on his way out of Ewood Park mere weeks before the FA Cup clash.

The Danish striker didn't exactly set the world alight while at Newcastle but he then went on to have a very impressive career after being sold to Feyenoord.

The 47-year-old has been in charge of Blackburn Rovers since June 2022 and with Newcastle drawing Rovers in the next round of the FA Cup, due to be played on 27th February, we were looking forward to the reunion, it gave an extra edge to the fixture.

Jon Dahl Tomasson's time is up at Blackburn

Unfortunately, it looks like we're going to be robbed of that pleasure.

Craig Hope has broken the news that Tomasson is on his way out of Blackburn.

Rovers are currently 18th in the Championship and it seems that the board's patience has run out with the Danish manager.

With just under three weeks until the two sides meet, there's plenty of time for Rovers to bring in a new manager before they face Newcastle which could make things a bit more awkward for the Magpies.

Eddie Howe will need a re-think ahead of the game now

The new manager bounce could give Blackburn that extra kick going into the fixture which might make life a bit more difficult for Newcastle.

Eddie Howe will also have to rip up his notes on Blackburn as their style of play is likely to completely change between now and then.

We may not have the extra spice of it being the Jon Dahl Tomasson derby anymore, but there's still plenty to be excited about.
