While the mood may still be a bit low around Newcastle United after dropping points on Sunday, the fact remains, Newcastle's destiny lies in their own hands and they could still finish second place in the Premier League.

Arsenal were pushing Liverpool towards the title for much of the campaign before dropping off the pace, allowing the Reds to be crowned champions with four games remaining.

However, the Gunners have held on to second place for much of the season, but are now in real danger of finishing lower thanks to a dip in form.

Next up for Mikel Arteta's side are Liverpool and Newcastle, leaving them with just Southampton, whom they should beat easily.

If Arne Slot fields a proper team against Arsenal they could ruin their season

Liverpool boss Arne Slot is messing about with his starting lineups now that the title is wrapped up and that saw them beaten 3-1 by Chelsea at the weekend, which could give Arsenal some hope going into the weekend's fixture, but former England goalkeeper Ben Foster has warned the Gunners they are in danger of finshing fourth.

“The next three games for Arsenal are season-definers.

“It does [matter if they don’t finish second], because the fans will look at this very differently if they finish third or fourth.

“If they lose to PSG, that’s them out the Champions League. Another season done when it was a real opportunity. Seen off Real Madrid, lost to PSG, oh my gosh.

“Lose to Liverpool, lose to Newcastle – they’re in danger of finishing fourth.”

Manchester City will also be looking to topple Arsenal

If Arsenal are able to overcome the 1-0 deficit in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final with PSG and progress to the final, that would be massive for them, and potentially Newcastle too as their focus will be more on that game than the Premier League.

Newcastle need just six points to secure a spot in the Champions League, unless Aston Villa start scoring for fun, but the aim will be to pick up nine points in the last three games and overtake Arsenal.

Of course, Manchester City will be looking to do the same, and that would be an impressive feat if the former champions nabbed second place after their poor season.

It's a fun end to the season, isn't it?
