BBC Sport pundit was blown away by what he saw at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium last night

If you'd just turned on the TV after final whistle had blown last night you'd be forgiven for thinking it was Newcastle United who'd beaten Tottenham not the other way around.

Newcastle were hammered by Spurs 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but the scenes in the away end at full-time told a very different story.

The Toon Army had a torrid time just getting to the game on Sunday with trains cancelled and alternative transport taking an age to arrive causing many fans to miss out on the game. Those who did make it to London (many of whom were still stuck there this morning as last night's train home was also cancelled) made up for their missing comrades.

Newcastle fans made the most noise last night

Despite the on-field pasting, it was more often than not the Geordies who could be heard making the most noise in the ground.

Then at full-time as Eddie Howe led his players over to the away corner of the ground to show their appreciation for the travelling support, Radio 5 Live commentator John Murray and pundit Pat Nevin couldn't believe what they were seeing with Nevin calling the Toon Army 'real football fans'.

John Murray brought the Geordie's dancing to the listeners' attention.

“They are actually dancing in the stands. They just watched their team lose 4-1 and been beaten out of sight and they’re celebrating like they won the match.”

Which prompted Pat Nevin to pile on the praise for the travelling support.

“That’s real football fans for you right? That’s not people who turn up now and again to get some pictures taken. That’s real football fans who care about the club.”

Fans still aren't panicking

With the season Newcastle are having in terms of injuries, annoying 10-month suspensions to our big summer signing, and spotty form as a result, you'd expect fans to be a bit downtrodden, negative and demanding answers, but it's far from the case.

Of course, there are fans moaning on social media, and they're well within their right to do so given how things are going, but nobody is really, honestly demanding for heads to roll because we all understand the bizarre circumstances that are directing our season.

We also know that we always seem to be stronger in the second half of the season, so with a few injured players back and a couple of new faces through the door, we'll be a force next year.
