Graham Potter has become the second managerial casualty of the Premier League season already after being relieved of his duties by West Ham United.

Eddie Howe sits fourth in the list of the current longest-serving Premier League managers, and the Newcastle United gaffer hasn't quite hit four years in the role yet, proving just how ruthless this sport can be.

Pep Guardiola tops the charts, held up by Mikel Arteta and Marco Silva of Fulham, who joined a few months before Howe was installed at Newcastle.

Nottingham Forest's Nuno Espirito Santo was the first Premier League manager to get the chop earlier this season, although his sacking seemed to be more based on internal politics than results.

Graham Potter managed just six wins with West Ham

Potter's sacking comes after West Ham have had an awful start to the season with just one win and four defeats from five games. In fact, Potter had only led the Hammers to six victories in 23 attempts.

It wasn't that long ago that Graham Potter was being hailed as the best English manager in the game when he was taking Brighton up the Premier League.

His efforts there earned him a move to Chelsea, where things really didn't go to plan, and he was sacked after just 31 games, after overseeing 11 defeats. That seemed to shatter his confidence, and the 50-year-old visibly aged during his time there. After leaving Chelsea, he ended up having a fair bit of time off before stepping back into management with the Hammers in January this year.

Graham Potter was being touted for the England job alongside Eddie Howe

Potter's reputation will be in tatters now after his last two appointments, when at one point he was being heralded as the next England manager.

Newcastle face West Ham at the start of November, and we're sure they'll have a permanent appointment in place by then, but as for how quickly they can turn things around, we'll have to wait and see. Nuno Espirito Santo is being touted as the most likely to replace Potter.

We're so glad we have Eddie Howe and a board that is willing to wait for the inevitable turnaround when we hit a sticky patch. Although things never got as sticky as what's happening at West Ham.
