Australia manager Tony Popovic says Garang Kuol needs to leave Newcastle United to progress
Newcastle United's Australian 'wonderkid' has not really lived up to that billing since his move to Tyneside from Central Coast Mariners.
The Aussie international arrived at Newcastle amid promises of huge potential, but a couple of poor loan moves to Hearts and FC Volendam have damaged his flourishing reputation.
However, the 20-year-old has undergone a resurgence recently playing for the Newcastle U21s after failing to secure a loan move away from the club in the summer due to injury.
In the U21s last 10 games, Garang Kuol has contributed five goals and four assists, earning a nomination for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month for April.
Australia head coach Popvic has said Kuol needs regular first-team football
Despite this form, though, it's still unclear where Kuol's future lies with another loan move expected next season, which is what Socceroos head coach Tony Popovic is hoping for after speaking about Kuol at a recent press conference.
“We’re monitoring him. We’ve seen some of his games that have been visible recently in the Under 21s. He just needs consistent football.
“The level can sometimes be deceiving, of course. But for any striker, when they’re scoring, they’re confident.
“Hopefully this will help him get a move somewhere where he will then have the challenge of getting into a team where there’s points on the line and there’s constant pressure.”
Can we find a Championship club for Garang Kuol to go out on loan next season?
It's very unlikely that Kuol will feature in Newcastle's first team next season, unless the plans to sign a striker completely fall apart and we're left with no choice.
We're not sure we're ready to completely give up on him either, especially after his recent form, so a loan move seems like the best idea.
Hopefully, we can find a Championship club willing to take a punt on him, as that would be the perfect test of his current level.
