Newcastle United may have really strong competition in the transfer market if the reports surrounding their preferred right-wing option are true.

For a few years now, Newcastle have held an interest in Brazilian winger Raphinha.

Newcastle wanted to scoop up the player before he left Leeds United for Barcelona and have kept an eye on his progress in La Liga since his £55 million switch.

It hasn't been smooth sailing for the 27-year-old since he landed his dream move and it now looks as though his time in Spain could be about to come to an end.

Arsenal and Newcastle could go head-to-head for Raphinha

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo have reported that Newcastle could be about to finally try to land Raphinha after months of waiting.

Reports also suggested that Mikel Arteta is looking to bring him to Arsenal and are preparing a £42 million bid.

It's believed that Barcelona would ask for £77 million but there is also a feeling that £55 million could get the job done.

Raphinha is drawing plenty of interest from other clubs

There's also interest from Saudi Arabia but the feeling is Raphinha would prefer to stay in Europe if he must leave Barcelona, which is something he's still not keen to do.

Despite having to fight for his place in the past, Raphinha is determined to do so again despite the rise of Lamine Yamal and Barca's intent to sign Nico Williams.

Arsenal could prove a good challenge for Newcastle in a transfer battle with their ability to offer Champions League football next season. We'll have to see how it goes, but we're not expecting to see the Brazilian standing alongside Eddie Howe any time soon.
