Antonio Cordero finds new club as Newcastle United end Belgian loan disaster
Antonio Cordero became the latest victim of Shola Ameobi's ineptitude as Newcastle United's loan coordinator.
The talented Spanish winger chose Newcastle over the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona in the summer, only to be shipped off to the Belgian Pro League by Ameobi.
Had he featured regularly for KVC Westerlo we'd maybe have less to complain about, after all, at least he was playing in the country's top division, but he has made just eight appearances and zero starts for the Belgian outfit.
As a result, Newcastle have cancelled the agreement and set about finding Cordero a new club for the second half of the season and according to Fabrizio Romano, that club has already been found.
Antonio Cordero has a new club for the second half of this season
It looks as though Antonio Cordero is heading back to the Spanish second division to play for FC Cadiz.
While we'd obviously prefer it if he were sent to a high-profile side, at least he's going to a division with which he's familiar, and that should give Cadiz the confidence to give him the game time he needs.
Newcastle's original plan was to try to loan him to a side playing in one of the European competitions, or at least at a higher standard than he was playing with Malaga last season.
Antonio Cordero should get a lot more game time back in his native Spain
Now, though, it seems that it's about rebuilding his confidence after a disaster in Belgium. Another black mark against Shola Ameobi as loans coordinator.
Hopefully, Cadiz will give him regular game time, and he can get back to playing the way he was last season when top clubs were tripping over themselves to snap him up.
As for Shola, we're still not sure how he's got this job, but more importantly, how he's kept it.
