The Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards has exclusively revealed that Anthony Gordon will be included in Gareth Southgate's England squad which will be announced at 2pm.

Anthony Gordon has been criminally overlooked by Southgate all season and just as it looked like he was about go get his call to the senior side, the 23-year-old was taken off injured against Chelsea on Monday with the England gaffer watching on from the stands.

With just four days until Southgate announced his squad it looked to be over for Anthony Gordon for this round, but after scans and tests it was revealed that the knock he suffered was not as bad as first feared and Gordon would be likely to train again this week.

It was then reported by Craig Hope that the England camp had been in touch with Newcastle to enquire about Gordon's fitness which is about a big a hint as you can get.

Gareth Southgate has finally seen the light

Now Luke Edwards has posted on X that Gordon will be in the England squad around 90 minutes before the official announcement.

There are also rumours that January transfer target Kalvin Phillips won't be named in the squad which is actually hilarious.

Phillips was constantly a part of Southgate's England squad despite hardly ever kicking a ball for Manchester City, but since he's moved to West Ham and started to play regular football he loses his place? Was it "big six" bias that kept getting him selected or is it that now he's seen him play more, he's realised he's not actually that good?

We dodged a bullet there I feel.

Will Gordon get any minutes in the two upcoming England fixtures?

While it's one thing to be called up for the national side, it's another to actually get on the pitch, and that's what Newcastle fans will now be wondering.

There are mixed emotions that come with seeing your stars called up for their country. Pride at having international players amongst the ranks and fear that they could come back from international duty injured and that's what will be playing on the minds of the Toon Army right now.

With the games against Belgium and Brazil mere friendlies, it would certainly sting more to have a player return injured after taking part in a pointless game, but a cap is a cap and with them being friendlies, Gordon is more likely to be given his chance.
