As if being absolutely battered into submission by Manchester City wasn't bad enough last night, Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon withdrew from the game shortly before half-time, citing a hamstring problem.

With nobody around him, Gordon went to ground, and you could see him saying to Phil Foden that he felt something with his hamstring.

The Newcastle physios rushed on and treated his left leg for a hamstring issue. Gordon was able to walk off the pitch (clutching his right hamstring), so it didn't look to serious, but it was the end of the night for the pacey winger.

We still don't know the extent of the injury, but Gordon has gone for a scan today with the club hoping for good news.

If the scan comes back clear, we have a suggestion

If the scan doesn't reveal any issue with his hamstring, may we suggest they check his heart?

To quote Chris on Ever More last night, he's got a heart the size of The Grinch. Except when it comes to Champions League games, of course, then his heart grows three sizes in his chest.

It's bad craic when you're accusing your own players of feigning injury in the middle of a game just because things aren't going our way, but this is where the fans are at this point. And I say all of this stuff about checking his heart and holding the wrong leg partly in jest, but there is a part of me that genuinely thinks Anthony Gordon bottled it last night.

Is this the same scan that couldn't find anything wrong with Jacob Murphy?

We'll no doubt get an update in the morning when Eddie Howe faces the media, and if it's the same scan that couldn't find anything wrong with Jacob Murphy, then well, it's either the process, or our theory is right.

If, as I suspect will be the case, he misses a game or two and makes a miraculous recovery in time to fly out to Qarabag, then we need to really ask the question.

Honestly, what has happened to me? I haven't been this cynical since the Steve Bruce days. I don't like it. I want my positivity back.
