Newcastle United coasted to victory against Qarabag FK in Baku tonight and will now take a 6-1 lead back to St James' Park for the second leg of the Champions League play-off next week.

Anthony Gordon turned on the style for Newcastle tonight as he broke Alan Shearer's record of the most goals scored for Newcastle in a single Champions League campaign.

Not content with that, though, Gordon nabbed his first senior hat-trick and became the fastest English player to bag three goals in a Champions League game.

All in all, not a bad night for the England winger who has come in for a fair bit of stick this season.

Anthony Gordon's record-breaking game will be overshadowed by desperate journalists trying ot make more out of his spat with Kieran Trippier

It wasn't all smooth sailing for the 24-year-old, however, as the winger got quite a ticking off from Newcastle's captain, Kieran Trippier.

Having already netted three times, once from the spot, Gordon held onto the ball when Newcastle were awarded a second penalty.

Kieran Trippier went over to have a word with Gordon, presumably telling him to let someone else take it, but Gordon refused and tucked the ball home from 12 yards.

Trippier and Gordon's tiff was nothing, but watch the media make it a big deal

When the players headed off the pitch at half-time, Trippier went back for another go and while we imagine it all ended right then and there, Darren Fletcher, who was on commentary for TNT Sports, was determined to make a big deal out of it, bringing it up at any given opportunity in the second half.

Anthony Gordon is the club's penalty taker, so he was well within his rights to hold onto the ball, but we do see Trippier's point to maybe let Nick Woltemade, a striker short on confidence, take it when the stakes are so low.

All was sorted between the pair by full time, however, and we're sure it's not going to develop into any kind of issue, much to TNT Sports' chagrin.
